Foxie - Gerstenegg

Foxie at Gerstenegg, on the west side of the Grimsel pass road above Handegg. Ten pitches of easy, well-bolted granite. Thanks to Ula for the adventure.

The climbing is mostly slab, following cracks and chimney lines up glacier-polished Aare granite, with bolts where they matter. Nothing on it is hard for the grade, and that is the appeal: ten pitches of steady friction climbing with the Handegg basin dropping away below.

Every anchor is set up for rappelling, so the route stays a sensible choice when the forecast is uncertain, and the rough granite holds friction even when damp. Thanks to Ula for the adventure.
