Rock climbing at Alcalalí, on the Costa Blanca. Thanks to Ula for the belays. I did not write down which routes we did, so this is mostly a note about the crag itself.

Alcalalí, Costa Blanca / south-facing roadside crag

Sport climbing / limestone / 40+ single-pitch routes, 3+ to 7b+ / 14-35 m / 5 min approach

The cliff sits just outside the village on the road to Orba, five minutes up from the parking on the bend. It forms a bay with a wing on each side: the left is slabby to vertical on smooth pocketed limestone, the centre and right steeper, with sharper rock, pockets and tufas. Everything is single pitch, bolted, with lower-offs; a 60 m rope covers most of it.

It faces south and takes all the sun, which in December is exactly what you want. Over forty routes and the guide’s lines run from 3+ to about 7b+, so there is something for whatever shape you turn up in. The far right side is fenced off on private land - leave those alone.

Logistics

Approach

Park on the sharp bend 2 km out of Alcalalí towards Orba, then walk up the paths left or right to the base. Five minutes. Houses are close by, so keep it quiet.
