Günterenstein

Günterenstein is a small limestone crag on the north side of the Muotathal, above the road to Illgau. South-facing and low down, so it comes into condition early. We were there in March, with snow still lying.

The crag is a limestone block of about 20 metres with roughly a dozen bolted single-pitch routes, graded 5a to 7a. It faces south, which is the whole point of the place in late winter: the wall dries and warms while the valley floor is still white. Routes are short, generally 15 to 25 metres, and well bolted.

Approach

Park at the small lot on the Muotathal–Illgau road, on the north side of the valley in the Brandwald. Five minutes on foot from the car.
