Günterenstein, rope solo

Back at Günterenstein, this time on my own — rope solo. Nobody to belay me, so I rigged the rope myself and worked through a few of the single pitches on the south-facing limestone above the Muotathal.

Rope soloing keeps the day quiet and slow. Rig, climb, strip the rope, repeat — most of the time goes into the rigging rather than the moves, so I stayed on the easier end of the crag and did fewer routes than I would have with a partner.

The wall is a limestone block of about 20 m with roughly a dozen bolted single pitches, 5a to 7a, generally 15 to 25 m. South-facing and low in the valley, so it dries and warms early in the year. I don’t remember which routes I did, so I won’t put a grade on any of them.

Park at the small lot on the Muotathal–Illgau road, on the north side of the valley in the Brandwald. Five minutes on foot.
