Rigi Kulm from Seebodenalp
A Rigi Kulm hike, starting from Seebodenalp. Short day, easy walking, and the kind of view over the Vierwaldstättersee that makes you forgive the cog railway for delivering crowds to the top.
Rigi Kulm, 1797 m / from Seebodenalp (~1020 m)
Hike / T1–T2 on the marked trails / ~880 m ↗ / Nagelfluh conglomerate
Seebodenalp sits at about 1020 m, so it takes a good chunk out of the day before you start — the marked trails from there to the Kulm are T1–T2 walking, roughly 880 m of ascent, and busy with people who came up by train instead. Early May meant green pastures low down and not much left of the winter on the summit dome.
The Rigi is built of Nagelfluh, pebbles cemented into solid conglomerate, and the steeper steps higher up are hung with fixed ropes and chains. We stayed on the marked line. Not a serious mountain, but a fine half-day with the whole lake laid out below.
