Eulengrat

Rock climbing on the Eulengrat in the Solothurn Jura, above Oberrüttenen below the Weissenstein — a south-facing limestone ridge of about ten pitches and 200 m.

The Eulengrat sits above Oberrüttenen in the Solothurn Jura, in the foothills below the Weissenstein. It is a south-facing limestone ridge, climbed in roughly ten pitches for about 200 m of height gain, graded 5b with 5a obligatory; individual pitches run from about 4b to 5c, and several of the harder ones can be bypassed on easier variants. The rock is well structured and the route is bolted apart from the easy sections; a 50 m rope and around ten quickdraws cover it.

Because of the southern aspect it is a spring and autumn route — midsummer is too hot. The top comes out on a terrace looking over the Mittelland.

Approach

Park in the forest by the reservoir above Oberrüttenen at around 690 m, then about 30 minutes on a forest path to the start at roughly 890–900 m. Descent is on the western path described in the Plaisir Jura guide, or by walking up to the hiking trail and back over Pt. 1183.
