Cinque Torri
The last day of the week in the Dolomites, spent on sport routes on the Cinque Torri. The weather looked uncertain all morning but the rain never came — a full day without a drop.
Cinque Torri — Averau, Cortina d'Ampezzo
Sport climbing / 300+ routes, III to 8b / pitches mostly 50–150 m / Torre Grande 2361 m
The Cinque Torri are five towers standing just north of the Averau, southwest of the Cortina valley, with Torre Grande the highest at 2361 m. There are over 300 routes here, from grade III up to 8b, and almost all of them short — rarely more than 220 m and usually 50 to 150.
We never managed to find topos for the routes we actually climbed, so they stay unnamed here.
Worth knowing that this was front line in the First World War, between Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops: the trenches are still there and the site is an open-air museum, the Museo della Grande Guerra.
