Back at Campsut

Ice climbing at Campsut in the Averstal again, the second time there. I spent a good part of the day exploring an ice cave rather than doing laps, and did not keep track of which lines I climbed.

Campsut, 1678 m / Avers, Graubünden

Ice crag: approx. 30 lines, WI2–WI5+ / M4–M9, 10–60 m, southwest-facing. Which lines I climbed that day I did not note.

The climbing itself is not much of a report. I came back for the same short lines and did not write down what I did, so I am not putting a grade on any of it — Campsut has around thirty lines from WI2 to WI5+ and 10 to 60 m, and mine were somewhere in the easy half of that.

The better part of the day was the cave. Behind one of the curtains there is enough room to get in and stand up, and I spent a while in there with a headtorch instead of climbing. Worth keeping in mind that the main wall has a large icicle hanging over the start, which comes down most winters — I stayed out from under it.

Approach

Park at Campsut in Avers (1678 m); the sectors are a few minutes from the car, with the sunnier falls perhaps fifteen minutes further. Southwest-facing, in condition roughly late December to mid-March. The Postauto from Andeer stops at Campsut if you would rather not drive.
