Cresta de los Infiernos - Picos de los Infiernos

A circular day from the Baños de Panticosa, out to the Picos de los Infiernos and the famous marmolera. Up first over the Collado de Pondiellos, then the descent looping back past the Ibones Azules and the Bachimaña reservoir.

The marmolera earned its reputation. On the crest between the western and central summits the rock turns to that pale, polished marble the range is known for, and the exposure opens up on the southwest side. Nothing hard in the hands, but the II moves want attention, and the down-climbing off the eastern top is the kind of loose, delicate work you do slowly.

From the central summit, the highest of the three at 3,082 m, the whole massif lays out. I dropped down toward the Ibones Azules, the blue tarns holding their colour under a low sun, and picked up the long descent past the Bachimaña reservoir back to the baths. A full day, closed cleanly.

Parking

Park at the Baños de Panticosa (Balneario), on the north side of the lake by the thermal complex. The refugio Casa de Piedra sits right there and marks the start.

Approach

Circular from the Baños. I went up first toward the Collado de Pondiellos, onto the Infiernos crest and across the marmolera over the three summits, then descended past the Ibones Azules and the Bachimaña reservoir back to the start — the standard loop run in reverse.
