A January ski tour up the Furggelenstock, the modest summit in the rear Alptal above the Ibergeregg. We climbed it, skied back down, and carried on to the neighbouring Brünnelistock to make a full day of it.

The line goes from the Ibergeregg pass up through forest and the open flanks on the Alptal side. Nothing steep until the very top: the final summit slope kicks up to around 30°, which is what earns the tour its WS grade — on the way up and again on the descent.

One thing to keep in mind: the whole mountain lies inside the Ibergeregg wildlife rest zone in winter, so it is a place to stay on the permitted corridors and give the game a wide berth.

Logistics

Parking

At the Ibergeregg pass (1406 m), between Schwyz and Oberiberg — reachable by bus, with parking at the pass.

Approach

From the pass, climb the flanks to the summit; the Furggelenstock and the neighbouring Brünnelistock link easily on skis, with the upper summit slopes the only steep sections.
