Adlerspitzli - Mythen, Schwyz

Rock climbing on the Adlerspitzli in the Mythen area, August 2023. The Adlerspitzli is a small limestone tooth at 1454 m on the southern side of the Grosser Mythen, standing directly above the Schwyz valley basin.

The Grosser Mythen throws down a long south ridge made up of several rock steps separated by grass slopes. The Adlerspitzli is the lowest prominent tooth in that chain, a pointed needle that sits at the foot of the Geissstock south-west face. It is small by alpine standards — the SE ridge gains only about 120 m — but it is prominent enough from Schwyz to be recognisable from the valley.

Logistics

Approach

The climbing routes on the Mythen south side are reached from Günterigs, on the Schwyz side, via the Ruchband — roughly 1.5 hours and 500 m of ascent, graded T5, with wire ropes and short climbing sections. An alternative approach comes in from the Alptal (Brunni) over Zwüschet Mythen. The SAC description of the SE ridge instead uses the Mythenbad trailhead, reaching the start of the route at about 1330 m. The Ruchband gets progressively more demanding towards the south and is noted as requiring experience and good footwear in wet conditions.
