An autumn day on the Gross Sidelhorn, the corner peak on the ridge just southwest of the Grimsel Pass. I started from the pass itself and worked my way up toward the summit.

The trail leaves the pass on the old Oberaar road, an easy panorama track above the reservoir, before turning uphill toward the Husegghütte. From there it climbs the ridge to the summit. Late September had already thinned the crowds; the light was low and the colours had turned.

Logistics

Parking

Park at Grimsel Pass (Grimselpass, roughly 2164 m), the road pass between the Bernese Oberland and the upper Valais. The pass is served by PostBus over the summer season.

Approach

From the pass, follow the Oberaarstrasse panorama road southwest for about ten minutes, then branch uphill to the Husegghütte. The marked trail continues up the ridge toward the summit, the final stretch over rock.
