Night Bouldering - Morschach
A night bouldering session at Morschach, on the granite blocks in the forest above Lake Lucerne in canton Schwyz. Headlamps on, everything past the holds in the dark.
Morschach, ~700 m / west-facing
Fb 3b–8b, most problems Fb 6a–7c+ / granite
Late September, so the light went early and most of the session happened under headlamps. Cold rock, warm shoes, small pool of light on the holds and nothing much visible beyond it — which for once made the traverses easier to read rather than harder.
The area is a scatter of granite erratics in mixed forest on a west-facing slope at roughly 700 m, nine or so main blocks and above thirty problems. Landings are good almost everywhere. I did not keep track of what went, so no grades from me here.
Logistics
Approach
From Morschach village up the Axensteinstrasse toward the Axenstein golf club, then along the Weg der Schweiz — first blocks about five minutes in. Parking at the forest edge is private, so drop gear and park down in the village, roughly 20 minutes back up.
