Salbitschijen, Zwillingsturm — Clock and Stock

A classic on the famous Salbit granite above Göschenen: Clock and Stock climbs the Zwillingsturm (Twin Tower), between the Jimmy route on the left and the Villigerpfeiler on the right. The line works up a big chimney system for the first pitches, traverses a couloir, and finishes up steep summit walls — 16 pitches, sustained but never desperate, with the crux pitches at 6a+ and the rest largely in the 6a-and-below range.

First climbed in 1983 by the Remy brothers, recently re-equipped by Ruedi Bünschi’s team; it follows blue markers.

Route

  • Grade: 6a+ overall, 6a obligatory; 16 pitches (recently extended from the original 14).
  • Rock: superb Salbit granite.
  • The line: ~4 pitches in a big chimney system → traverse across a couloir → steep summit-wall climbing.

Gear

  • Single 50 m rope is enough if you don’t plan to rappel the route.
  • 1–2 Friends per pitch, a set of slings and quickdraws.

Approach

  • From Göschenen up to the Salbithütte, then to the foot of the Zwillingsturm.
